Frat Boy VS Boy From Frat

30

It seems like I’ve been more and more guys who belonged to a fraternity when they were in college. Sorry, they belong to a fraternity (despite the fact that years have passed since they attended college, they consider themselves alumni, and consider this an honor). One thing these guys don’t quite seem to get is the difference between a “Frat Boy” and someone who was part of a fraternity when they attended college.

Let me educate them. First of all, they all seem to be upset when I clarify to them that they are not  Frat Boys. I can see why…Frat Boys are often associated with coolness, like the guys on Coors Light commercials. But let me tell you, Frat Boys were only cool for about 15 minutes in my first year of university. Then, I realized what they actually were: spoiled rotten brats. That is what a Frat Boys is in a nutshell. They party all the time, are disrespectful to women, are stupid and wear their baseball caps backwards. They usually shout things for no apparent reason and throw up in other people’s cars after a kegger. Frat boys don’t necessarily need to belong to a fraternity either. They can be little assholes all on their own.

Someone who used to belong to a fraternity is a guy who, when he was college age, decided he needed to associate himself with a group, so he joined a fraternity rather than having to use social skills to meet people. I personally used smoking as a way to meet other girls in my classes (no longer a smoker). These men are usually setteled down now, and really only call themselves Frat Boys to cling to a freedom they once had and never fully utilized. These guys need to know that it is not cool anymore to consider themselves Frat Boys.

I am friends with some ex-fraternity members or fraternity alumni, one of whom I anticipate will be commenting on this blog shortly. I mean them no disrespect…disrespecting them would be calling them Frat Boys. That being said, I don’t think I properly utilized Frat Boys when I was at the age where they should be utilized.

FIrst off, there are no fraternities at the university you went to (at least not any that weren’t just a group of drunk guys putting up some random greek letters on a house and using it as an excuse to find other drunk guys to party with). Most fraternities do have at least a couple of guys that you would classify as ‘frat boys’, but as you appear to be saying, they are not the norm…

And I have never called myself a frat boy, I have merely pointed out on a couple of occassions that I belong to a fraternity and you tried to twist my words into making it look like I was trying to call myself a ‘frat boy’… : P

Did you look up whether or not there were fraternities where I went to school? If so, you need to work harder at your job.

You have stood up for frat boys before, and you do seem to get offended when I tell you that you aren’t. This article was really about you.

  3. Randy Says:

Didn’t have to look it up. I was on the WLU Greek Council when I was in school and I know that there are only about 20 schools with a fraternity system in Canada, and your alma mater is not on that list…

  4. Darcie Says:

    Randy is a nerd.

  5. Frank Says:

Good job stirring up the hornet’s nest! We all knew there would be a reaction to this post, and you got it! My college had frats, we didn’t need them to get incredibly drunk and celebrate New Year’s during the June finals week.

  6. Darcie Says:

You’re just confirming my theory that Frat Boys are morons.

  7. Teenwolf Says:

    Nothing today.

I just came by to see if there was a blogpost entitled “Teenwolfs Crank”.
Alas there is not. I know nothing of frats or frat boys.

  8. Darcie Says:

Sorry Teenwolf, I will try to make my posts more You-related from now on.

  9. Twyla Says:

Just like the picture you chose for today’s post. Thanks for today’s Gun Show! Appreciate it. Having a bit of trouble trying to figure out who’s hotter, Frat Boy # 2 or Frat Boy #2. Hmmm, def Frat Boy #2.

  10. Frank Says:

Can’t believe you didn’t pick on there being a “WMU Greek Council”, something like leave the “R” out of the title. None of us really felt the need to have a “Frat” to be able to party hardy!

  11. Marty McFly Says:

    Toga! Toga! Toga!

  12. Darcie Says:

Twyla, if you can’t decide, take ‘em both.

Frank, Did you just call Randy fat? If so, I like it. I agree, there is no need to have a frat to party.

  13. Darcie Says:

I bet Marty is a frat boy.

  14. Randy Says:

Actually, I believe he just tried to call me a geek… which is interesting coming from somebody who was on a couple of shows on History Television… ; P

The purpose of fraternities is not just to get drunk in big groups. I mean sure, it makes organizing and holding large parties much easier (especially when you go through the proper legal channels), but there are many more benefits to belonging to a fraternity than just getting wasted 7 days a week…

    And I am not fat…

  15. Darcie Says:

“especially when you go through the proper legal channels” Geek.

  16. Frank Says:

Organizing parties seemed to be the only real purpose at my school. And, Randy is not fat, he picked up on the Greek thing. AND #2, I was on several History Channel shows, several PBS shows, and even an HGTV show (18 total). SO there!

  17. Darcie Says:

How many times have you been on TV Randy? Oh wait, Randy does a YouTube sports show that no one watches.

  18. Marty McFly Says:

I’m not a frat boy but I don’t mind a little Greek (food that is).

  19. Darcie Says:

Then it would never work between us. I’m not a huge greek food fan. I love Caribbean though.

  20. Marty McFly Says:

you didn’t get my joke. ah well, at least you have beauty and a block-rocking body.

  21. Twyla Says:

Seriously Darcie…..your post could have been a little shorter today. This way you maybe could have included more of that image of those two hot men. Think about that next time you blog!! ;o)

  22. Randy Says:

When your keg parties routinely have more than 300 people at them, the attendees usually prefer that the cops don’t show up and kick everyone out at 11:30…

Frank, adding PBS to the list isn’t really helping your cause either (I’m just playing around, by the way, no thunderdome worries here)… ; D

We average 300 views per episode and we’re just getting started… : P

  23. Darcie Says:

    Thanks Marty.

Twyla, you just need to go to Abercrombie and Fitch to see those guys. They are models for them.

If it’s such a hot show Randy, why didn’t you share the link with everyone here?

  24. Randy Says:

To be quite honest, I’m rather indifferent to the whole thing… I just feel that they need to have at least one person on the thing that actually knows sports… but don’t tell Aaron…

  25. Darcie Says:

    Whatever Ryan.

  26. Randy Says:

    Ouch…

  27. Twyla Says:

I think I just need some sleep. Went to bed last night at 11pm and then woke up at 3am to leave for a work function at the airport. Felt like a zombie with a hangover all day. Had stared at those A&F models and at one point thought one of them winked at me!!

Don’t worry….I’m going right to bed, PRONTO!!! (Should make for some good dreams!! haha)

  28. Ryan Says:

Wait a minute… WAIT A MINUTE! I realize that calling Randy Ryan probably did a little bit to restore his self-image, but it’s dragging mine through the mud. Er… Randy… being defensive about the whole geek society thing isn’t really helping you portray yourself as the ‘cool older drunk dude’ when you hand with the teenagers.

  29. Ryan Says:

Just because I know it’ll happen… I am self-correcting the word ‘hand’ as it should be ‘hang’… if grade 5 reading tests have taught me one thing, it’s that if you self-correct, it isn’t a mistake.

  30. Randy Says:

Guy, what the hell are you talking about?
