Happy Birthday Canada!
Today is a holiday up here in the great-white north. Here is a list of things I love about being Canadian:
1) I am nice by default. People from other countries assume this about me, then read my blog.
2) We, as Canadians, feel we are smarter than the average American. This is because the average American believes we all live in igloos. Americans: when I was a kid, I built snow forts, but never actually lived in one. (Side note: I love my American readers).
3) Canadian beer
4) I love saying “eh” after everything. It gives me a moment to think about my next sentence.
5) The Quebecois. If it weren’t for them, my fellow Saskatchewanites would bear the brunt of most jokes.

What about the national health care that won’t bankrupt you if you get the flu?
I had my appendix out in Vancouver when I was 14. Great service. And a bill of only $800 for two weeks in the hospital. Gotta love that.

I hate national health care. It is a great idea on paper, but people abuse it so much that it has become broken. I also hate most social services that Canada offers. Maybe I’m just bitter because I got paid this morning and I have already paid about $20K in income tax and have used approximatley $3.00 of social programs that I am paying into.
There is alot of great things about living in this Country, I just don’t like how it is run.

As someone who has never been sick, and who has two family members who work in healthcare, I love our health system.
