Short Girl Rant

27

I’ve blogged about this before, but it deserves a second go-round. Let me know how my videos are doing.

4 hours later: So I did that video just before going out. While Charmaine did get checked out a lot, only one guy approached us. Some excerpts from the great mind of Andrew:

-You are a tigress.

- I am about to become a grandfather (repeated 5 times)

- (To Charmaine) You could be in Bollywood

- Do you have a tiger at home?

- (To me, after repeating my name 7 times) So, Dale….(then later) So Daryl…

- Do you like fashion? I have some bathing suite and lingerie that I need to unload. Maybe you could just try some on.

you are so cute. why are you single again? oh yeah, singlegirl says girls hate being asked that, it makes y’all feel defensive rather than complimented. i still don’t understand that. i like girls who are a little bit tall (5-foot-7 i think would be my ideal height) as a guy who is a little bit tall myself (5′-11″). shorts girls — i don’t want to say anything bad against the shorties but they are not so much for me.

  2. FitDarcie Says:

I’m single because I have a massive boil on the back of my neck. I hide it well with my hair, but as soon as I make out with someone, they notice it and run.

I have a girlfriend who is 6′ tall…and I find the same thing happens when I’m out with her, I get ignored. I think it’s a whole novelty thing.

  3. Awesomeness Says:

I Still Hate Tall Women. Well, I had never before. But I do now, since you hate me for my height deficiency. What’s even more laudable are Tall Women with Boils. Hate ‘em.

  4. Randy Says:

I’m only 5′8″, but a couple of years ago I dated a girl who was 5′10″ for about 4 months…

It always felt a little awkward…

I prefer to stay in the 5′0 to 5′6″ range…

And I’ve noticed the whole ‘tall guy with short girl’ thing before and also find it annoying… although maybe they are just trying to make it so that one day every guy will be 5′9″ and every girl will be 5′4″ (average heights in the developed world)… which means I guess I should concentrate on the 5′5″ girls…

  5. FitDarcie Says:

PS- you all should have seen Non-Awesomeness Charmaine trying to play pool. She had to use that long stick thingy every time because her arms are too short.

  6. FitDarcie Says:

Randy, that’s putting way too much thought into it.

  7. drummerg217 Says:

That sucks! Is she super peppy or something? (I mean, does she give off a certain vibe?) How are you supposed to meet anyone when they all act like that?!

  8. FitDarcie Says:

She hangs out with me, so she is really cool.

  9. drummerg217 Says:

Well I just figured THAT went without saying!! ;))

  10. Awesomeness Says:

I’m going to start a Short Women Rock blog. And a Short Women who Rock and the Men who Love Them blog. And, by the way, who won the first game of pool? That’s right. I will also be joining a short women support group. Facilitated by Tall Hot Men. None of whom will call me tigress. Unless he’s very tall and very handsome. Then it’s OK.

  11. FitDarcie Says:

I wonder if “tigress” is a polite way of calling someone a “cougar”

  12. Mark Jaquith Says:

Okay, you really owe us pictures now, after that description of her.

  13. Mark Jaquith Says:

“Tigress” is a nice way of telling someone that they look “exotic,” which is a nice way of telling someone they have brown skin.

“Hey baby, your skin doesn’t look like my skin” doesn’t work, but “exotic” and “tigress” are somehow okay.

  14. FitDarcie Says:

If she’d let me, I’d do it. But I don’t want to exploit my friends that way. And for the record, I was the one called tigress.

  15. Awesomeness Says:

What? You missed him blurting out tigress, followed with a high five? To which I akwardly smiled at for fear of touching his hand. I felt, for a second, like I was in an Ali G movie. If he didn’t just look like he sneaked out from the dumpster out back, it could have been a moment.

  16. Mark Jaquith Says:

Hm, in that case, “tigress” could be a nice way of saying that he’s afraid you might be able to kick his ass.

  17. FitDarcie Says:

I think Charmaine like him. And I could have kicked his ass.

  18. Ranger Says:

Being only 5′6″ myself, I think I would feel weird with a significantly taller girl. So, bring on the shorites!

  19. Janice Says:

As a tall girl, I always got some sort of attention, but I never really liked it. Now I look normal as my boyfriend is a good 9 inches taller than me. I always used to complain that all the tall guys went with the short girls and that left nothing for me. Now I have the super tall girls (over 6 foot) telling me the same thing. I just laugh.

  20. FitDarcie Says:

@Ranger- thanks for taking them. How tall would you go?

@Janice- 9 inches? I have other questions about his physical largeness. I’ll message you privately about those.

  21. Ranger Says:

I might go a couple inches taller but I just don’t want to have to strain my neck to look her in the eyes, especially if she’s wearing high heels :).

  22. o'dog Says:

this needs some kind background music … something with a bit of a disco porn flavour to it.

  23. Darcie Says:

Thanks O’dog. That’s exactly what I was going for.

  24. J.R. LeMar Says:

I thought about this blog today, because I saw a woman who was taller than me this morning. @ 6′2″, I’m not used to women taller than me. I was in the grocery store, and walked past her. It was a Black woman, had to be over 40 because she had slightly graying hair, and she had to be @ least a couple of inches taller than me. And she was wearing sandals! I tried not to stare, and thought briefly about making some little comment to her (like, “wow, you’re tall”), but decided against it.

It made me think about whether I’d feel comfortable dating a woman who was taller than me? I’m not sure if that would be a deal-breaker. I think that what would make it feel weird to me is precisely because it’s so unusual. If I were a short guy, and grew up always being short, I might be used to it. But I’ve just never had to deal with that before. I’ve been with a couple of women who were eye-to-eye with me when they wore heels, but never someone naturally that tall.

BTW in regards to video blogs, you should try do another one like that “speed-dating” video. That was hilarious!

  25. Darcie Says:

I keep forgetting you’re tall. Hi JR.

  26. J.R. LeMar Says:

    Oh stop that.

  27. Darcie Says:

6′2″, black, employed, likes my stories…c’mon
