The Group Date

2

I did a post up a while back about passive-aggressiveness that keeps seeming to pop up. Another way this comes to mind is when I get asked out on group-dates. Here’s how the call always goes:

Group Dater: Hi, it was great meeting you last night.

Me: Yeah, you too.

Group Dater: So, any plans for tonight?

Me (excited because I really like this guy): No, not yet.

Group Dater: Cool. My friends and I are going to this new club. You should come down there and meet us.

Me: Oh, I forgot- I do have plans. I have to bang my head against the wall repeatedly to get my disappointment in you out of my head.

This happens way more often then you think. It’s probably because my rock-hard abs and ridiculous good-looks are really intimidating. I was talking with a guy friend about this recently, and he couldn’t think of a reason why men would do it either. What advantage could it give them? At that stage, we’re still new, and the Group Dater doesn’t have any claim on me, so if I found one of his friends to be more interesting than him, he would have nothing to say. It wouldn’t count as a first date, so then the inevitable occurance of the third date would just be prolonged.

To me, it makes no sense. But to the men who I seem to attract, it’s oddly logical.

Wow–someone like you has problems dating??? Must be trying the wrong places. Hope your New Year goes better, and don’t worry about the celebrations, not everyone does something wild that night. It gets old after a while–same old, same old every New Years!

Thanks Frank! 2009 is the year of FitDarcie. I can feel it!
